You Can Now Locate Your Siri Remote Using the Find My App

Easier Searching Within the Apple Ecosystem
Apple has introduced a significant improvement for Apple TV users with its latest software updates, iOS 17.2 and tvOS 17.2. From now on, second and third-generation Siri Remote models are fully integrated into the Find My app. This change makes the process of locating a misplaced remote much more intuitive and convenient.
While it was previously possible to locate a Siri Remote using an iPhone since iOS 17, the process was somewhat cumbersome. Users had to navigate to the Apple TV Remote widget within the Control Center, a method many found less visible and difficult to access. Now, the remote will appear in your Find My list just like your iPhone, iPad, or MacBook.
Technical Limitations and Differences
It is important to note that Find My support for older models comes with certain limitations. The latest Siri Remote, introduced with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, is equipped with a built-in speaker and Precision Finding capabilities, which make locating the remote much easier. Unfortunately, second and third-generation remotes lack the ability to emit sound or provide spatial guidance, so finding them on the Find My map is limited to their last recorded location.
To enable Find My support for your Siri Remote, you must install tvOS 17.2 on your Apple TV. Note that after the update, you may need to wait a short while for the remote's firmware to update automatically. Only after this process is complete will the device be added to your Find My list.
What This Means for Users
The popularity of Apple TV is growing, particularly among those who actively use the Apple ecosystem. Losing a remote, which often gets hidden between sofa cushions or in other corners of a room, is a common problem. Find My support, even with limited functionality, significantly simplifies the search process.
This move highlights Apple's strategy to integrate all its devices into a single, well-organized network. Although older remotes do not offer the advanced search features of the latest models, adding them to Find My at the software level improves the user experience and offers a practical solution without any additional costs.
