Why Are Your Apps Missing From Apple CarPlay?
Understanding the safety restrictions and development requirements behind Apple’s automotive interface.

Apple CarPlay makes driving significantly more comfortable, yet users are often confused as to why not every app installed on their iPhone is available on the dashboard. While it might seem logical for certain apps to appear in CarPlay, Apple’s strict policies limit their availability.
Why are not all apps visible?
First, it is important to note that apps do not automatically transfer to CarPlay. Developers must specifically design an interface adapted for the vehicle's screen. This process requires time and resources, which is why many developers simply do not create CarPlay support for their products.
Furthermore, Apple enforces strict guidelines regarding which types of apps are permitted. The company’s policy focuses on safety, meaning only categories deemed "essential while driving" are allowed. These include navigation, music, communication, electric vehicle charging, and food ordering. Social media and games are strictly prohibited because they distract the driver.

How to check available apps
If you want to ensure all your preferred apps are activated, go to your iPhone’s Settings > General > CarPlay. Select your vehicle and navigate to the Apps section. Here, you will see a list of apps already added, while below, you can add supported apps that you have not yet enabled.
News and future prospects
With the iOS 17 update, CarPlay gained support for artificial intelligence, including the integration of ChatGPT and Perplexity. The capability for video apps was also added, though with a significant restriction: video can only be watched while the vehicle is stationary. Despite this, many automakers remain cautious about such integrations.
Today, competition in the automotive market is growing. Tesla and Rivian are developing their own infotainment systems that offer more features to users than CarPlay. For Apple, the main challenge is maintaining a balance between safety and the features modern drivers demand. For users, this means that while more apps may become available in the future, Apple’s priority will remain the safety of the driving process.
