Walmart May Be Preparing to Partner with Rivian for Electric Vans

Interesting shifts are emerging in the electric vehicle market. A photo circulating on social media showing a commercial Rivian van adorned with Walmart logos has generated significant interest within the tech community. The vehicle was first spotted on a trailer on a highway in Indiana, and a similarly designed van was later seen parked in front of a Walmart supermarket.
Why This Partnership Matters
For several years, Walmart has been working to transition its delivery service to an all-electric fleet, though the company has faced various challenges. The retail giant previously signed agreements with Canoo and General Motors’ BrightDrop division. However, both manufacturers encountered production issues, leaving Walmart with outdated or discontinued platforms.
Against this backdrop, Rivian stands out as one of the few companies in the U.S. currently mass-producing specialized electric vans. Rivian’s vehicles have been used successfully by Amazon for years, proving their reliability. While the exclusivity period with Amazon has ended, a partnership with Walmart would be a strategically vital move for Rivian.

Pilot Testing or Large-Scale Contract?
It remains unclear whether the companies are discussing a large-scale deal or merely a pilot program. Rivian opened its van sales to all businesses starting in 2025, so Walmart may simply be evaluating the vehicles in a test mode. However, circumstances—including Walmart’s expansion of charging infrastructure and overlapping personnel between the companies—increase the likelihood of a collaboration.
For Walmart, this move is a logical progression, as they require a proven platform to support their door-to-door delivery services. For Rivian, securing a major client beyond Amazon is essential for the company’s financial stability. News of the potential partnership has already positively impacted Rivian’s stock price, reflecting investor optimism.
More details may emerge in the coming days as the company prepares to present its quarterly reports. Although no official announcement has been made, the appearance of branded Walmart vans indicates that the e-commerce giant is ready to seek new partners to solve its logistical challenges.
