Verizon Introduces $10 Monthly Fee for iPhone Handoff Feature

American telecommunications giant Verizon has officially confirmed pricing for its new iPhone Handoff service. Introduced by Apple alongside the iOS 27 update, the feature allows users to sync a single phone number across two different iPhones. Under Verizon's new policy, this capability will be available for a $10 monthly subscription fee.
How iPhone Handoff Works
The primary purpose of iPhone Handoff is flexibility. Users can easily toggle their active status between devices, which is particularly convenient for those who use separate smartphones for work and personal use. For instance, seamless communication is possible between an iPhone 18 Pro and the newly released iPhone Duo; however, it is important to note that the phone number will only be active on one device at any given moment.
Verizon stated that the feature will be fully integrated with its 5G network, ensuring continuous and high-quality connectivity. The service is expected to launch in the near future once the operator officially enables support, which Apple projects will happen by the end of this year.
Competitor Positions and Global Trends
Pricing for iPhone Handoff varies significantly across the telecommunications market. For example, the American carrier T-Mobile offers the same service for half the price, at $5 per month. Meanwhile, AT&T has announced that it does not plan to implement the feature in the near future.
The situation differs in the European market. The British operator EE will offer the feature free of charge to premium package holders, while other subscribers will be charged £5. Germany's Deutsche Telekom has set a price of €6.95 for the service, though it remains free for customers on certain tariff plans.
What This Means for Users
Although the iPhone Handoff feature is currently tied to major operators in the U.S. and Europe, technological innovations often spread globally. For users who actively utilize the Apple ecosystem, the potential introduction of such services by local operators remains a development to watch. At this stage, iPhone Handoff remains a premium add-on that offers extra convenience, though the price of that convenience varies sharply across the market.
