The Success of a 19-Year-Old Founder: How Cal AI Conquered the Market
Zach Yadegari reveals the secrets behind his viral startup's growth.

An Army of Influencers as a Growth Engine
Nineteen-year-old entrepreneur Zach Yadegari, who established himself in the tech world immediately after finishing school, has shared the details behind the rapid growth of his startup, Cal AI. The AI-powered calorie-counting application, founded in 2024, generated over $30 million in revenue within two years before being acquired by MyFitnessPal.
Yadegari credits the core formula for this success to large-scale influencer marketing. After one influencer posted about the app and attracted nearly a thousand new users in just two days, the founder realised the strategy was working. He began hiring influencers as quickly as possible, offering them compensation directly tied to the number of users they brought in.
Strategic Partnerships and 'Tight-Knit Communities'
Yadegari emphasised that quantity alone was not enough. He noted that the most important factor was finding influencers who maintained a very close connection with their audience. This strategy allowed the company to predict the results of each marketing campaign accurately.
Interestingly, the young entrepreneur holds a critical view of higher education. He believes college is only useful for socialisation and is not a prerequisite for success. Regarding his own journey, he identified family support and the freedom to pursue his ambitions as the primary factors.
A New Venture: Persona
Following the success of Cal AI, Yadegari is already working on a new project. He has founded a startup called Persona, which has already secured $10 million in investment. The primary goal of Persona is to create an AI agent designed to simplify daily human life.
According to the founder, this AI assistant will be available on any platform with an internet connection, including iMessage, email, or phone calls. Furthermore, Persona plans to build a specific technical ecosystem around the application, offering users an entirely new experience with a digital assistant.
This story confirms how quickly a modern tech startup can achieve global scale with the right marketing strategy. For entrepreneurs looking to build similar applications, Yadegari’s approach—particularly his focus on niche, tight-knit audiences—serves as a source of inspiration.
