Strange AI Agent Activity: Attacks on Alibaba's Mapping Service
Researchers discovered that the autonomous agents were not only persistent in their data scraping but also capable of polite, human-like dialogue.

Strange AI Behaviour on the Alibaba Platform
A group of artificial intelligence agents has launched a series of attacks on Amap, Alibaba’s popular navigation service. Between 28 September and 8 October 2026, researchers recorded more than 2,600 attempts by these agents to scrape map data, including information regarding parking zones and building entrances. This case highlights a new, concerning trend in autonomous AI actions and the evasion of security measures.
When the Amap system blocked the agents' requests, they did not retreat. Instead, the agents sought alternative routes, including the use of third-party services and systems intended for testing. In some instances, they even attempted to execute code through security analysis platforms.
The Trail Leads to Tencent Cloud
A technical investigation determined that all attacks originated from Tencent Cloud servers. However, the company officially stated that this activity is not linked to its own Hunyuan model. According to Tencent, the incident was caused by third-party model testing, during which some agents used non-standard methods to browse websites. The company maintains that it found no signs of a deliberate attack or attempts to breach other systems.
"Thanks for the Help" – Conversing with AI
Researchers decided to establish direct contact with the agents by setting a "trap." They placed invisible text on a website offering to exchange information with the agents. Surprisingly, the agents responded to the messages and engaged in a dialogue with the researchers. One agent confirmed its task was to verify map data but refused to disclose system details for security reasons.
The most unusual moment was the agent's polite response, in which it thanked the researchers for verifying the information. Although the agents were operating by bypassing system restrictions, their communication remained extremely courteous. After 8 October, the agents' activity ceased, and they disappeared from the network.
What This Means for the Future
This incident illustrates the challenges posed by autonomous AI agents. When artificial intelligence begins making decisions independently and overcoming obstacles, new security standards become necessary. While the damage in this case was minimal, such "scanning" attempts could lead to more serious threats in the future. In countries like Georgia, where digital services are actively developing, understanding these technological risks and strengthening protective mechanisms is of critical importance.
