Steam Overhauls Achievement System for Greater Player Flexibility
Valve's latest update ensures your completion stats remain intact even when new content is added.

A New Standard for Achievement Hunters
The achievement system on the Steam platform is undergoing significant changes. Valve has released an update that allows players to manage and track their progress with much greater ease. This change is particularly vital for users who strive for 100% completion in games but often face issues when new downloadable content (DLC) is released.
Previously, if a game received new DLC, your achievement percentage would automatically drop, regardless of whether or not you had purchased the expansion. With the new system, developers can categorise achievements into base game, DLC, and seasonal events. This ensures that your base game statistics remain untouched even if you do not complete the additional content.
Seasonal Events and Improved Interface
The update is especially effective for seasonal events, such as Halloween updates or various game Battle Passes. These achievements are temporary and will no longer affect your overall game progress. As a result, players will no longer feel as though their "100% completion" status has been lost due to temporary activities.
Furthermore, Steam has updated the achievement page. All necessary information is now gathered in one place, making it much more comfortable to track progress. One of the most welcome additions is the direct achievement comparison feature, which allows you to compare your progress against up to three friends simultaneously.
When Will It Be Available?
The system is currently in beta testing. However, it is worth noting that several popular titles, including Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2, and Crusader Kings III, are already utilising this new functionality. If you wish to test the new features, you can join the Steam Client Beta program or wait for the official release, which traditionally follows about a month after testing begins.
For gamers who use Steam, this change is a positive step forward. It not only makes the achievement system more transparent but also aligns it with the console experience, further enhancing the platform's user experience.
