Shelly Unveils Presence Gen4 Sensor: Tracking Up to 10 People

An Innovative Approach to Home Automation
Smart home manufacturer Shelly has introduced its latest accessory, the Presence Gen4 sensor. The device allows users to track the presence of people and pets in a room without the need for visual recording. By replacing traditional cameras with mmWave (millimetre wave) radar technology, the gadget ensures maximum privacy.
A key advantage of the Presence Gen4 is its ability to detect up to 10 people simultaneously. The device can monitor the movement and activity of both humans and pets, taking home automation to a new level.
Technical Specifications and Capabilities
The sensor features a 140-degree horizontal field of view and can monitor an area of up to 60 square metres. It offers flexible installation, allowing users to place it on a shelf or table using the built-in stand, or mount it permanently to a wall. The device requires constant power via a USB-C cable.
One of the most impressive features is the zoning system. Users can create up to 10 independent detection zones. For example, lights can be set to turn on only when someone sits at a specific desk, or a home cinema system can activate only when someone sits on the sofa. For added convenience, sensitivity can be adjusted to ensure the sensor ignores the movement of robotic vacuum cleaners on the floor.
Ecosystem Compatibility
Shelly’s new sensor is designed for broad platform compatibility. It supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and the Matter standard. The device integrates seamlessly with popular systems such as Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant.
Through this sensor, users can control lighting, heating, air conditioning, and music systems. The automation functions efficiently: the system activates devices upon entry and turns them off after departure, serving as an excellent method for energy conservation.
Availability
The Presence Gen4 is currently available on the official Shelly online store for $84.99. In the near future, the product will also appear on other major retail platforms, including Amazon and Best Buy. This device represents a significant step in the development of smart home technology, focusing not only on functionality but also on user privacy.
