Segway Launches New Xyber Air Electric Bike
A lighter, more practical take on the company's popular electric bike.

Segway has introduced the Xyber Air, a new electric bike designed to build on the success of the company's earlier, more robust model. This version offers a more practical approach, specifically adapted to meet current legal standards. Priced at $1,999, the bike is already available for pre-order and is set to reach the market by the end of October.
Design and Technical Specifications
The Xyber Air retains the futuristic, motorcycle-inspired design of the original, including Segway's signature X-shaped lighting. However, engineers have significantly reduced the weight to 38 kilograms, a notable improvement over its predecessor. Despite this weight reduction, the bike can carry a load of up to 150 kilograms.
The bike is equipped with a 750-watt motor, which reaches a peak output of 1,600 watts and 80 Nm of torque. The 717 Wh battery, according to the manufacturer, provides a range of up to 93 kilometres on a single charge. Safety is managed by hydraulic disc brakes and 80mm suspension forks.
Smart Features and Regulations
A primary advantage of the Xyber Air is its versatility. Owners can select between operating modes (Class 1, 2, or 3), allowing the speed limit to be adjusted in accordance with local regulations. The maximum speed is 45 km/h. Furthermore, the bike includes modern technology such as traction control, hill-start assist, and GPS tracking.

Segway has also prioritised connectivity. Integration with a mobile app, Apple Find My support, and a remote locking function offer additional convenience to users. However, it is worth noting that some digital services will become subscription-based after one year, a common practice in the modern micromobility market.
Why It Matters
Segway has created a product that remains visually striking without blurring the line between a bicycle and an electric motorcycle. This approach allows the bike to legally utilise cycling infrastructure, making it much more convenient for daily commuting. While the bike remains relatively heavy, its price and technical specifications make it a strong competitor in the mid-range segment.
In regions where electric transport is gaining popularity, hybrid solutions that combine motorcycle aesthetics with bicycle functionality may prove to be an attractive choice for consumers. The success of the Xyber Air will depend on how effectively users leverage its smart capabilities in their day-to-day routines.
