Samsung to Discontinue Its News Service
The service will officially cease operations on December 21, 2026.

What to expect on Samsung devices
Samsung News, which provided users with a streamlined way to access news, was an integral part of the One UI interface, typically located on the leftmost panel of the home screen. Following the service's discontinuation, this space is expected to be fully dedicated to Google Discover. At this time, Samsung has not introduced an alternative solution to replace this functionality, meaning users who relied on this panel for news will now depend on Google's platform.
Data protection and service optimisation
Alongside the closure, Samsung has provided information regarding data security. The company stated that once the shutdown process is complete, personal data collected through Samsung News will be deleted, with the exception of records that are required to be retained by law and local regulations. This move is part of a broader strategy Samsung has been pursuing for some time. Recently, the company has closed several less popular or secondary services, including Samsung Daily Plus, and implemented changes to the Samsung Community platform. Such decisions are often linked to the company's desire to focus on larger, high-demand products, such as the integration of artificial intelligence through Galaxy AI.
What this change means for users
Many smartphone users actively utilise the One UI interface. While the functionality of Samsung News was regionally limited and perhaps not a daily necessity for everyone, its removal will lead to specific changes in the interface. For users accustomed to the information panel on the left side of the home screen, this means a shift to the Google ecosystem, which has effectively become the standard for most Android devices for some time. Samsung's decision highlights a growing trend among manufacturers to move away from developing their own duplicate services in favour of global, well-established platforms.
