Replit Officially Ends Partnership with Anthropic
The company's CEO cites performance and cost-efficiency as the primary drivers behind the transition to OpenAI.

Replit, the popular cloud-based programming platform that allows developers to build and run applications directly in the browser, is ending its partnership with Anthropic. This was publicly confirmed by the company’s CEO and co-founder, Amjad Masad.
Why the shift in priorities?
According to Amjad Masad, the decision was driven by several factors, including financial costs and technical performance. While Replit previously utilized Anthropic’s Claude models, the company announced a new partnership with OpenAI in August. The CEO explained that internal testing and performance metrics indicated that ChatGPT is currently more efficient.
"We use internal and public benchmarks. We consistently see that Sol and Astra models handle building applications from scratch better. It was a decision based on costs, partnership quality, and performance," Masad stated. Despite this announcement, sources indicate that as of September, Replit was still utilizing Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet models within its environment, which may be part of a transitional period.
Growth and the importance of the corporate sector
Replit’s CEO also discussed the company's financial growth. He noted that compared to last year, the share of the corporate sector in total revenue has increased significantly. While corporate contracts accounted for only 2% of revenue last year, this figure has risen to 15% this year. In total, the B2B segment now accounts for more than half of the company's revenue.
A secure environment for artificial intelligence
During the discussion, Masad emphasized the necessity of creating an AI "habitat." He believes that just as humans require a comfortable working environment, AI agents require security, proper orchestration, authorization, and network safety. Only by meeting these conditions can artificial intelligence be used safely and effectively.
For developers who actively use Replit for rapid project prototyping, this change represents a reassessment of the platform's capabilities. The transition to OpenAI models will likely alter the quality of code generation users receive on the platform. Although the collaboration with Anthropic was a factor in Replit's rapid growth, the company is clearly seeking to maximize the benefits of OpenAI's latest technologies.
