Oura Ring Introduces New Cardiovascular Health Monitoring Features
The company is expanding its smart ring functionality with new fitness metrics.

New Capabilities for Health Monitoring
Oura, one of the most popular companies in the smart ring market, has announced a significant update for its products. Users will now have access to new features—Cardio Effort and an improved VO2 Max assessment—allowing for more detailed monitoring of physical exertion and overall physiological condition.
Cardio Effort is an individual metric that evaluates the strain placed on a user's body during exercise. The system categorises exertion into five levels: Easy, Moderate, Sustaining, Improving, and Straining. Based on the Training Impulse method, this feature aims to monitor long-term cardiovascular trends, helping users understand how their weekly activity aligns with their personal baseline metrics.
Automatic VO2 Max Assessment
The second update concerns the calculation of VO2 Max, or the measurement of maximum oxygen consumption. Previously known as Cardio Capacity and available through Oura Labs, the feature previously required a six-minute walking test. In this updated version, VO2 Max will be assessed automatically based on GPS-tracked workouts, meaning users no longer need to perform specific tests.
This update will be available to owners of the Oura Ring Generation 3 and newer models via the Oura Labs platform. While similar data collection has long been available on devices like the Apple Watch or Fitbit, Oura’s implementation is significant for those who prefer the ring form factor over wearing a wrist-based watch or tracker.
What This Means for Users
Oura’s latest move confirms the trend of smart devices becoming increasingly focused on holistic health analysis. For active users, Cardio Effort data will serve as an excellent guide to avoid overtraining and improve workout efficiency.
In Georgia, where the promotion of a healthy lifestyle is growing, such technological solutions are attracting increasing interest. Although smart rings remain a niche product compared to traditional watches, expanding their functionality will further strengthen their position in the market.
