ORICO Launches Its First Laptop, the Obook15: Details and Pricing
A New Player in the Laptop Market
ORICO, a company known for the past 17 years for its data storage devices and accessories, has entered the laptop market. Their debut model, the Obook15, is designed for students, entry-level professionals, and content creators. The device is currently available for pre-order, with the company offering special discounts to early buyers.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The Obook15 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H processor, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads. It reaches a maximum clock speed of 4.7GHz, with graphics handled by the integrated Radeon 680M. The laptop comes with LPDDR5 memory in 12GB or 24GB configurations, which the company claims is sufficient for modern multitasking.
The display is a 15.6-inch IPS panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Thin 5mm bezels provide an 81% screen-to-body ratio. Notably, the laptop hinges allow for a 180-degree opening, enabling the screen to lay completely flat.
Storage Expansion and Artificial Intelligence
A key advantage of the Obook15 is its upgradeability. The laptop includes two M.2 2280 slots, one of which is free and supports additional PCIe 4.0 storage up to 4TB. This feature allows users to significantly increase their storage capacity over time.
The device is also equipped with the XiaoAo AI assistant. It includes 11 specialized tools designed to help users manage the device, automate workflows, and organize information. ORICO CEO Yeyou Xu stated that this is their response to the demand for "intelligent productivity."
Pricing and Availability
The base model of the Obook15, featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is priced at $689.99. During the pre-order period, which runs until October 23, the company is offering a 15% discount, bringing the starting price down to $586. The laptop is available in three colours: silver, pink, and blue.
While the device is currently focused on the US and Philippine markets, its specifications and AI integration signal an interesting trend. The appearance of such feature-rich devices in the budget segment is set to intensify competition, ultimately creating more favourable conditions for consumers.
