New Jersey Official Fired After Using AI to Challenge Misconduct Claims
The former official attempted to use AI-generated analysis to dismiss the findings of an official investigation into his conduct.

A Bizarre Defense Strategy
The forced departure of Dale Caldwell from his position as a New Jersey official has proven scandalous. An official investigation concluded on 25 September that Caldwell repeatedly violated ethical standards and engaged in the sexual harassment of an employee. Despite the clear evidence, the former official chose an unconventional and controversial method to attempt to prove his innocence.
During an interview with NJ PBS, Caldwell claimed he was the victim of unfair persecution and that artificial intelligence (AI) platforms supported this view. He stated that he fed the investigation report into various AI models to obtain their conclusions. The former official argued that the AI asked the question, "What would your conclusions be?" 59 times within the report, which he interpreted as an indication that the final decision was biased.
Artificial Intelligence as an Argument
This incident highlights the dangers associated with the misinterpretation of artificial intelligence. Caldwell's attempt to use AI-generated responses to invalidate the results of an official investigation has become a subject of mockery on social media and in the press. Experts emphasize that AI models are not designed for the objective analysis of legal documents or investigations, as they can only generate text based on user prompts rather than establish real facts.
While the use of artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common across various sectors, this case demonstrates the critical importance of maintaining a critical mindset when using such technologies. Information provided by AI cannot serve as a substitute for actual legal evidence. The Caldwell case will remain a lesson on how technology should not be manipulated for personal gain.
