Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: A High-Performance EV with 1,153 Horsepower

Mercedes-AMG has officially introduced its first fully electric, independently developed high-performance crossover: the GT SUV. Built on the company’s new, specialized AMG.EA electric platform, the vehicle is designed to compete directly with electric Porsche Cayenne models. The car is scheduled to hit the market in the summer of 2027.## Technological Advancements and PowerThe new GT SUV is equipped with three axial-flux motors, which feature a compact, pancake-like design. This technology allows for a much higher power-to-weight ratio than traditional motors. The most powerful version, the GT 63, produces 1,153 horsepower, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds. The vehicle is powered by an 800-volt battery with a usable capacity of 128 kWh. Mercedes engineers have implemented a unique cooling system where each cell is submerged in non-conductive oil, which helps maintain high power output consistently.## Record-Breaking Charging CapabilitiesOne of the most impressive features is the fast-charging system. The GT 63 and GT 55 models support DC chargers up to 710 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes. While this is among the best in the industry, charging infrastructure capable of such power remains limited in real-world conditions, particularly in the U.S. market. The vehicle offers a range between 620 and 700 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. Despite its significant weight of approximately 2,695 kilograms, it maintains an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.27, which enhances energy efficiency.## Interior and Driving ExperienceInside, the cabin features a 14-inch central screen integrated with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. An optional 14-inch display for the passenger is also available. Mercedes has not overlooked the vehicle's sonic identity; in AMGFORCE Sport+ mode, the driver can activate a simulated V8 or six-cylinder engine sound that works in tandem with virtual gear shifts. While the market for such high-end electric crossovers remains niche, Mercedes-AMG aims to prove that electric vehicles can combine top-tier dynamics with practicality. For drivers in regions like Georgia, where electric vehicle infrastructure is gradually developing, such technological progress from manufacturers serves as a significant signal for the future of the automotive industry.
