Mathspace Data Breach Exposes Records of Over a Million Users

Online educational platform Mathspace has fallen victim to a major cybersecurity incident. Citing the company's official statement, BleepingComputer reports that hackers managed to steal data belonging to more than a million students, teachers, and parents.

According to the investigation, the attackers breached Metabase, the platform's internal analytics system used for database reporting. Through this unauthorised access, the perpetrators succeeded in seizing confidential user records.

Breaches of this nature within the educational technology (EdTech) sector are especially sensitive, as they involve the personal details of minors. Stolen information is frequently weaponised in phishing campaigns and social engineering attacks, making it simpler for cybercriminals to carry out fraudulent schemes in future.

Mathspace stated that immediately upon discovering the incident, it implemented additional security measures and began working to remediate system vulnerabilities. The company urges users to stay vigilant regarding suspicious emails and to update their account passwords if necessary.
