Mark Wahlberg’s New Venture: An Accessible Fitness Centre
The Hollywood star aims to democratise high-tech health monitoring

Renowned American actor and entrepreneur Mark Wahlberg is returning to the fitness industry with an ambitious new project. This December, he will open the first Municipal Gym, a 3,000-square-metre facility located near Las Vegas. According to the actor, this is the most significant and exciting venture of his career, aimed at democratising high-tech health monitoring services.
A Healthy Lifestyle for Everyone
Currently, the market is dominated by so-called “longevity clubs” that offer genetic testing, blood analysis, and recovery therapies at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars annually. Wahlberg aims to create an affordable alternative to these services. Municipal Gym will include three cycles of blood analysis, doctor consultations, hormone therapy, and recovery procedures such as cold plunges and compression therapy.
The actor states that for around $99, customers will receive comprehensive diagnostics and an individualised health plan. This approach differs from expensive competitors that often cater exclusively to an elite segment.
Brand Evolution
Municipal Gym is not a standalone project but part of Wahlberg’s broader Municipal brand, which he launched during the pandemic with a line of athletic apparel. The actor admits that entering the clothing business in 2020 was a difficult decision, but he viewed it as the first step toward a wider “health ecosystem.” The fitness centres will allow customers to personally test the brand’s products and become part of a unified community.
Wahlberg emphasised that the name “Municipal” is no accident. It pays homage to the public fields and stadiums in Boston where he grew up. The actor wants his gyms to foster an environment where people support one another, compete, and strive to become better versions of themselves.
Past Experience and the Future
The actor has years of experience in the fitness industry, including an investment in the F45 network, which faced financial difficulties. Wahlberg says he learned a vital lesson from that process: the key is selecting the right partners and creating a model that encourages members to stay in the gym, rather than just offering a “formal” membership.
Although his schedule is currently very busy, Wahlberg is optimistic about the development of Municipal. He plans for aggressive growth and has already received offers from developers for prime locations. However, his primary motivation is no longer just physical appearance, but waking up energised every morning and achieving his goals.
As the fitness industry continues to develop, hybrid models that combine health monitoring with exercise are gaining increasing attention globally. Wahlberg’s initiative confirms a growing trend where fitness is no longer just about physical exertion, but a complex system of health management.
