Major Xbox Reorganisation: Halo's Future Shifts to Activision

A New Chapter for Xbox
Microsoft’s gaming division, Xbox, is continuing the radical reorganisation that began this July. As reported by Ars Technica, the company’s leadership aims to dismantle structural barriers that previously forced various studios to operate in isolation. Under the new plan, the company intends to unite all internal teams around a single, cohesive vision.
The Future of Halo at Activision
The most significant change concerns the legendary Halo franchise. From now on, responsibility for the development of Halo will fall to Activision, the creators of Call of Duty. The former 343 Industries, now rebranded as Halo Studios, will be significantly downsized and will focus exclusively on supporting the player community. This decision has resulted in the redundancy of 268 employees.
Activision President Rob Kostich stated that their goal is to create the best game in Halo’s history, one that honours the franchise's legacy. The company has already begun assembling a specialised team tasked with writing the next chapter of the series.
What Do These Changes Mean?
Xbox executive Asha Sharma previously noted that the gaming division’s primary issue was the excessive independence of its studios and a lack of a unified vision. The current “reset” process is intended to establish this discipline. For gamers, including those in Georgia who have followed the Halo series for years, this news is significant as it directly impacts the largest gaming franchises on the market. Time will tell if Activision’s experienced team can breathe new life into Halo and whether it will retain the unique character that players love.
