iOS 27.2 Update: New CarPlay Features and Enhanced Siri Capabilities

New Capabilities for CarPlay
Apple has officially launched iOS 27.2, bringing a host of updates to mobile devices and the integrated CarPlay vehicle system. Because CarPlay relies directly on the iPhone's operating system, changes made to the smartphone are automatically reflected on the vehicle's display. This update focuses on podcast management and expanding the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of Siri.
Refreshed Podcasts Interface
A significant change has been applied to the Podcasts app. The "Up Next" section, which previously grouped upcoming episodes, has been removed from the main page. In its place, Apple has added two specialized tabs: "New Episodes" and "Continue Playing." This change allows users to find new releases from their favourite shows more quickly, while episodes that were interrupted can be resumed directly from the "Continue Playing" section. This design decision aims to reduce distractions while driving and simplify navigation.
Enhanced Siri Intelligence
With iOS 27.2, Siri in CarPlay has gained a new level of capability. The virtual assistant now remembers previous conversations, allowing you to ask about details discussed in the past. For example, if Siri recommended cafes last week, you can now easily ask it to repeat that information. Furthermore, Siri’s AI now draws from a much wider range of data. To provide answers, the assistant uses information from your voicemail, Safari history, calendar attendee lists, and even photos received within the Messages app. This makes the system more contextual and useful for drivers.

Design Changes and Limitations
The update also brings a visual change: the Music app icon has been updated. Instead of the familiar red background, it is now monochrome—a white background with a black note, or vice versa, depending on whether Dark Mode is enabled. However, some users have noted that after this update, it is no longer possible to use APTV in the vehicle's infotainment system, which previously allowed for video playback on the screen.
For users in Georgia who actively use CarPlay, this update will simplify interactions with Siri. However, it is important to note that some Apple services, particularly the in-depth analysis performed by the voice assistant, may not function fully in the Georgian language due to linguistic barriers. Nevertheless, the improvements to the application interfaces will be a welcome change for all drivers.
