Instagram Arrives on Apple TV: Watch Reels on the Big Screen
Meta quietly expands its platform to living room devices

Instagram Conquers the Living Room
Instagram users accustomed to viewing their favourite content on smartphone screens now have a new option. Meta has officially released an Instagram app for Apple TV. From now on, short-form Reels, live streams, and other visual content will be available on your television screen.
Despite its significance, the company announced the update without a major presentation. Apple TV appeared as a compatible platform in updated app store data on 23 October. Just a few days prior, the application was limited strictly to iOS and iPad systems.
A Strategic Pivot Toward Video
The arrival of the app on Apple TV is part of Meta's broader strategy to expand Instagram into the living room. The company began testing this approach last December, focusing specifically on video formats. By June of this year, the application had already become available to users of Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TV, and Google TV.
Why does this matter? Meta is clearly attempting to promote longer-form and episodic content within Instagram. The recent rise in popularity of "micro-dramas" has pushed the company to align its platform more closely with traditional television experiences. The big screen creates a much more comfortable environment for consuming this type of content.
What This Means for Users
For users who actively rely on Apple TV, this change introduces a new culture of platform consumption. While Instagram was previously perceived solely as a mobile application, it is now becoming part of the home entertainment system. This is particularly convenient for watching Reels with friends or viewing live broadcasts in greater detail.
In the future, Meta is expected to place even greater emphasis on optimising its television applications. It is likely that the app will be enriched with new features, allowing users to manage content more easily via remote control. At this stage, the application is already available in the Apple TV App Store and can be downloaded by anyone.
