Google Updates Chrome’s Enhanced Safe Browsing Protection
The latest update utilizes AI to combat phishing and sophisticated ClickFix attacks.

New Security Standards in Chrome
Google has implemented significant improvements to the security system of its Chrome browser. According to the company, the enhanced Safe Browsing mode protects users against phishing, social engineering, and various fraudulent schemes ten times more effectively than the standard protection mechanism.
As part of this update, warnings about suspicious websites will appear in the Chrome address bar. This feature activates if a page exhibits destructive patterns often associated with malicious resources. Users will see a special shield icon, allowing them to either deem the site safe or leave it immediately. For more severe threats, the browser will continue to display a full-screen red warning.
The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Protection
Google has begun using Gemini models for fraud detection. This cloud-based technology allows the browser to analyse website content, brand authenticity, and the probability of fraud. This approach is particularly effective at identifying fake antivirus software and attacks disguised as browser updates.
The company emphasises that data processing is ephemeral. This means that page content is not stored or used for further training of artificial intelligence models, ensuring high standards of privacy.

Protection Against ClickFix Attacks
One of the main goals of the update is to prevent ClickFix attacks. Using this method, attackers force users to manually copy and execute malicious commands on their computers under the guise of "fixing" a technical problem. In reality, this process facilitates the download of malware.
The new mechanism monitors text copied to the clipboard, and if the system deems it dangerous, it immediately warns the user. This system is designed with high precision to protect users in real time without interfering with the work of developers and legitimate software.
Safe Browsing Enhanced Protection was introduced in 2020, and as of 2025, it is used by more than 1 billion people. Anyone can activate the feature in Chrome settings under Privacy and security > Security. These changes are particularly important for users globally, as cybersecurity threats are universal and such automated protection is becoming an essential part of digital hygiene.
