Google Security Tools: How to Protect Yourself from Scams
Use built-in AI tools to identify and avoid fraudulent messages

Protecting Yourself from Scams with AI
In an era where fraudulent messages and phishing campaigns are becoming increasingly sophisticated, additional layers of security are essential for users. Google is reminding users about tools already integrated into their smartphones that can help identify suspicious content.
Circle to Search (CtS), originally designed for visual searches, has expanded its capabilities. Using AI Overviews, the system can now analyse text messages, assess their credibility, and explain why certain information might be suspicious. This feature is particularly useful for verifying links and offers received from unknown numbers.
How These Security Mechanisms Work
If your smartphone does not support Circle to Search, Google offers an alternative. Google Lens provides similar functionality and is available to both Android and iOS users. The process is simple: you can scan or analyse a received message as a photo, after which the system provides recommendations on how to proceed.
It is important to note that Google’s security systems are constantly evolving. While the latest features, such as the "enhanced protection mode" in Google Messages, are currently available on a limited number of devices, Circle to Search and Google Lens are accessible to a wider audience. This allows many users to take preventive measures and avoid the loss of financial or personal data.
Why This Matters for Users
Cybercrime is on the rise globally, including in Georgia. Scammers frequently use social engineering to convince users to click on malicious links. Utilising tools like AI-based message analysis creates an additional barrier that helps maintain digital security.
Google is expected to expand these integrated security features to more devices in the future. Until then, it is recommended to actively use existing tools. Always verify information from unknown sources and avoid clicking on links, even if a message appears highly convincing.
