Google Cloud Outage Disrupts Services for Revolut Users
Technical failures in London data centres have caused significant service disruptions for major fintech platforms.

A significant disruption to Google's cloud computing infrastructure on Tuesday morning led to the failure of dozens of services hosted in its London data centre region. The technical issues had an immediate impact on fintech giant Revolut, with its application and card payment systems temporarily paralysed. ## Technical collapse and impact on users According to Google's service health dashboard, the incident began at 07:08 BST and affected the europe-west2 region. A total of 36 products were impacted, including Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, and the data analytics platform BigQuery. Users faced network errors and server access issues, prompting Google to advise clients to migrate workloads to other regions where possible. Revolut's application functionality began to fail approximately one hour later, around 08:00. Issues were reported en masse across the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Romania, and Germany. The fintech firm officially confirmed a partial service outage but reassured customers that their funds and personal data remained secure. ## Google and Revolut partnership Revolut relies entirely on Google Cloud resources for its back-end systems and application management. The companies signed a multi-year partnership in September 2025, which encompasses not only cloud services but also artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to assist Revolut in detecting fraudulent transactions. While Google has not yet specified the exact cause of the incident, the technical failure led to a sharp increase in user complaints on Downdetector. Simultaneously, some ING Germany customers also experienced technical issues, though a direct link to the Google server outage has not yet been confirmed. This incident highlights the risks associated with the reliance of global financial systems on a single cloud infrastructure. Although such technical disruptions are temporary, they raise questions regarding the resilience of digital banking, particularly when millions of users' daily financial operations are at stake.
