Ford’s New Electric Pickup Fathom to Cost Less Than $30,000
The upcoming 2027 model will be the first to feature Ford's new UEV platform.

A New Generation of Electric Pickups from Ford
Ford’s new electric pickup, the Fathom, has been spotted in public once again ahead of its official launch. A camouflaged prototype was recently seen near the company’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. While the vehicle has yet to be formally unveiled, its appearance has generated significant interest in the automotive industry, as it will be the first model built on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform.
According to the company, the base model of the Fathom will start at $28,350. Even when accounting for destination fees, the truck will be available for less than $30,000. This price is approximately half that of Ford’s first electric pickup, the F-150 Lightning, making the Fathom one of the most competitive models in its segment.
Technological Innovations and Capabilities
Despite its accessible price, Ford promises that the Fathom will be equipped with modern technology. A sensor located at the front of the vehicle will support driver-assistance systems, and owners will have access to the BlueCruise system for autonomous driving. Notably, the Fathom will be the first vehicle to feature Apple Maps integrated directly into its navigation system. Naturally, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also included.
Regarding the interior, the company highlights a large touchscreen and a spacious cabin. Ford claims that although it is a mid-size pickup, its interior will be more capacious than that of a Toyota RAV4. This is complemented by a front trunk (frunk) and a cargo bed, adding to the vehicle's practicality. To optimize costs while maintaining space, Ford will utilize lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries.
What Lies Ahead?
Ford representatives have confirmed that the Fathom will be equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, making it compatible with Tesla Superchargers. While the exact battery capacity and range remain under wraps, it is already known that the cost of ownership over five years will be lower than that of a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y.
Pre-orders are set to open in early 2027, with the first vehicles expected to reach customers by the end of that year. Ford officials stated that the vehicle’s debut and the announcement of its full technical specifications are planned for early next year. This model is expected to have a significant impact on the electric pickup market, particularly for customers seeking practicality and affordability.
