Facebook Tests New Interface in India Prioritizing Reels
The social media giant is shifting its focus toward short-form video to compete with TikTok.

Meta has initiated a radical overhaul of the Facebook application interface. The company is currently testing a feature in India that greets users with a full-screen video experience immediately upon opening the app. This change positions Reels as the central component of the platform. ## A Video-First Experience This approach aims to align Facebook’s structure more closely with the popular format pioneered by TikTok. Currently, users see a mix of posts from friends and various content types when opening the app, but the new test shifts the priority entirely to video. For Meta, Reels has long been a product of strategic importance. The company is actively working to increase user engagement through short-form video to compete with rival platforms. India, being one of the largest markets, serves as an ideal testing ground where observing user behavior will help the company decide whether to roll out these changes globally. It is not yet known when this feature will become available to users in other countries, including Georgia. However, if the testing yields positive results, it is likely that Meta will fully transition to a "Reels-first" strategy, which would further diminish the significance of the traditional Facebook News Feed.
