More Freedom Without the App

The most significant update to the Ember Mug 3 is its control mechanism. While temperature adjustments were previously limited to the mobile app, you can now manage settings using a button located on the base of the mug. Users can select from five preset temperature modes, starting at 52 degrees Celsius (approximately 125 degrees Fahrenheit). Each press increases the temperature by 5 degrees, up to a maximum of 63 degrees Celsius (145 degrees Fahrenheit).

This feature is particularly convenient for those who prefer not to reach for their smartphone every time they need to heat up their drink. However, there is a minor ergonomic caveat: the button is positioned at the bottom of the mug, which can be slightly awkward when the vessel is full of hot liquid. Users often have to tilt the mug to access the control.

Technical Specifications and Design

Despite the new button, the app remains fully functional. Via Bluetooth, the mug connects to your smartphone, allowing for the creation of custom temperature profiles for different drinks. For instance, the company provides optimal temperature suggestions for black coffee, green tea, or lemon water.

Notably, the Mug 3 includes an additional lid to prevent spills. The mug can maintain your beverage at the desired temperature for up to three hours. A major quality-of-life improvement is that the model is now dishwasher-safe, making maintenance significantly easier. However, it is important to note that it is not suitable for use in a microwave.

Pricing and Availability

The Ember Mug 3 is available in two sizes: the 295ml (10 oz) model is priced at $129, while the 414ml (14 oz) version costs $149. There is a wide selection of colours, particularly for the larger model, which comes in eight different shades.

The company also introduced the Tumbler 2, which has a 473ml (16 oz) capacity and is designed to fit standard car cup holders. It is priced at $179. These products are now available on the official Ember website and at major retail platforms. While this device is often considered a luxury, it truly transforms the daily beverage experience, making it particularly relevant for those working from home.
