Edifier Hecate G2000 Pro: Gaming Speakers With a Distinctive Design
When setting up a gaming space, we often look for devices that offer not only high-quality audio but also visual flair. The new Edifier Hecate G2000 Pro fits this category perfectly. These 2.0 system speakers enhance any desktop with their unusual shape and transparent design.
Design and Construction
The visual appeal of the Hecate G2000 Pro is quite bold. The speakers feature an elongated hexagonal shape and a transparent body, with integrated RGB lighting inside. Notably, the lighting can be easily switched off for users who prefer a more understated look. The speakers are tilted at a 10-degree angle, directing sound straight toward the listener, which eliminates the need for additional stands. The construction is solid, and rubber feet reduce vibration while preventing the units from sliding on the desk.
Sound Quality and Performance
Despite their compact size, the Edifier Hecate G2000 Pro delivers 32 watts of power. Each speaker houses a 3-inch full-range driver. During gaming, the sound is clear, which is essential for identifying positional audio cues. However, it should be noted that the speakers do not support a separate subwoofer connection, which may be a drawback for bass enthusiasts. Nevertheless, the bass is quite impressive for speakers of this size.
The Hecate Xear Audio Center software allows users to enable 7.1 virtual surround sound. This mode works well in specifically designed games, though it may create an unwanted echo effect with standard stereo audio. Generally, the speakers sound best in the standard, flat EQ mode without additional effects.
Connectivity
The device is quite versatile in terms of connectivity. Users can choose between Bluetooth 5.4, USB-C, USB-A, or a standard 3.5mm AUX input. Additionally, a headphone jack is located on the back, which is convenient for routing audio directly to a headset. It is worth noting that wired connections, such as USB or AUX, provide a cleaner and more detailed sound compared to Bluetooth.
Conclusion
The Edifier Hecate G2000 Pro is a balanced choice for those seeking a compact yet effective audio system for their gaming desk. With a retail price of $249, these speakers offer quality sound, modern design, and diverse connectivity. However, the limited software and some technical shortcomings suggest that their primary strengths remain their hardware performance and aesthetics. For gamers looking for a blend of style and functionality, this model is certainly worth considering.
