Donald Trump backs AI self-regulation over federal rules
US President tells journalists American tech firms are outperforming China without government restrictions.

US President Donald Trump has held a meeting with executives from major technology companies. Following the event, the president answered questions from journalists and outlined his vision for artificial intelligence safety.
Trump stated that the federal government does not plan to impose strict regulations on the AI sector. Instead, the president believes the industry should operate under a self-regulation model. According to him, "the smartest people in the world" are following the process and will keep each other in check.
The meeting was attended by tech leaders, including Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg and representatives from Google. When asked by journalists whether the government should introduce more restrictions, Trump replied that there was no need, arguing that American companies are completely outperforming China.
"Super Intelligence" and a shift in stance
During the meeting, Trump also discussed a shift in his own stance. In the past, he referred to AI safety concerns as a myth created by Democrats. However, the president now states that this assessment no longer applies because the technology has been renamed "Super Intelligence".
For the tech sector, this approach indicates that the US administration does not intend to hinder AI development, viewing global market leadership as a priority.
