Christopher Abbott Will Not Appear in Upcoming Avengers Films
The new Professor X actor confirms he is skipping the next two Avengers instalments to focus on his standalone debut.

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans eagerly anticipating the debut of the new Professor X, Christopher Abbott, in upcoming Avengers projects will be disappointed. The actor has officially confirmed he will not appear in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. While Marvel films are known for surprise cameos, Abbott stated that his current focus is entirely on the X-Men feature film slated for 2028.
Prioritising the X-Men Reboot
Abbott, who was introduced by Marvel Studios at this year's D23 event, noted that he wants to fully establish the character of Charles Xavier in his own film before considering roles in other projects. The actor categorically denied rumours that he would join the fight against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. "I have to finish my film first before moving on to anything else," the actor stated.
What Awaits Fans in the Marvel Universe
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on 18 December 2026, with Secret Wars following in December 2027. Although actors from the original X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart, have appeared in promotional materials, the new team's debut appears to be set for a later date. With this decision, Marvel is opting to introduce the new cast directly through their solo film, marking a strategic shift in their approach.
Alongside Abbott, the new X-Men team will feature Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Asa Germann as Angel. The film is set to premiere on 5 May 2028. While some viewers hoped to see the mutants in the final Avengers battles, Abbott's statement tempers those expectations.
What This Means for International Audiences
For cinema lovers who closely follow the Marvel saga, this news signals that the new X-Men era will be more clearly distinguished from the current Avengers adventures. This approach allows the actor to build the character independently from the ground up, which will likely lead to deeper character development in the 2028 premiere. While cameos are always exciting, establishing a character properly may prove more beneficial in the long term.
