BYD Launches New Great Han Electric Sedan With 1000km Range

Competition in the electric vehicle market is intensifying as Chinese manufacturer BYD officially introduces its new flagship electric sedan, the Great Han. With its technical specifications and pricing, the vehicle poses a serious challenge to premium-class models like the Lucid Air Grand Touring.
Technical Capabilities and Range
One of the most impressive features of the new model is its range. According to the Chinese CLTC standard, the vehicle can cover more than 1,000 kilometres on a single charge, while the more rigorous European WLTP cycle estimates it at approximately 817 kilometres. This result is exceptional in the sedan segment, positioning the car as a direct competitor to the most expensive Lucid models.
Beyond its range, BYD has prioritised charging speed. Thanks to the company’s new 'Flash Charge' technology, the battery can be charged from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes. This performance significantly exceeds most existing electric vehicles, simplifying the charging process for users.
Premium Equipment at an Accessible Price
The Great Han stands out not only for its technical specs but also for its interior and comfort systems. The vehicle is equipped with a rear-wheel steering system, an augmented reality (AR) head-up display, and a dual-chamber air suspension. These features aim to bring the model in line with premium German and British brands.
In the Chinese domestic market, the starting price is 235,900 yuan, or approximately $35,200. While prices may increase for international markets, it is expected to maintain a competitive edge. The company has not yet released details regarding exports to Europe or other regions, though there is speculation that the model could be distributed under BYD’s premium Denza brand.
Implications for the Market
This move by BYD confirms that Chinese automakers are successfully meeting technological challenges. LiDAR-based autonomous driving systems, innovative suspension, and multimedia solutions are now available at price points that threaten traditional market leaders like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Skepticism toward Chinese brands in the automotive industry is fading rapidly, and the Great Han is a primary symbol of this shift.
For consumers in Georgia, this news is significant as the range of available electric vehicles continues to expand. Although official representation for BYD in Georgia is still developing, the pace of the company's global expansion suggests that such high-tech models may soon become available in the local market.
