Artificial Intelligence is Replacing Web Developer Jobs
New research shows that over half of entrepreneurs are now using AI to build websites, leading to a significant decline in freelance employment opportunities.

The New Reality of the Web Development Market
The evolution of digital technology has fundamentally transformed the website creation process. According to recent studies, 53% of American entrepreneurs no longer hire professional developers, opting instead to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to build their sites. This trend has directly impacted freelance platforms, where the number of job postings for web design and programming has dropped sharply since 2024.
Data from Freelancer.com indicates that between the second quarter of 2024 and the third quarter of 2026, orders for web design and PHP programming fell by 59%. Similar declines were observed in WordPress and HTML-related tasks, where demand dropped by 58% and 55%, respectively. These figures suggest that the web development sector is under significantly more pressure from technological automation than other creative or technical industries.
Why Entrepreneurs Choose AI
For business owners, using artificial intelligence primarily means saving time and money. Entrepreneurs participating in the study noted that, on average, they saved $850 and 32 working hours by using AI. While 85% acknowledged that a site built with AI would differ from one created by a professional developer, satisfaction with the results remains very high.
Interestingly, entrepreneurs do not fully trust automation. Only 9% published AI-generated products without making any changes. The majority, approximately 61%, manually adjusted the content, while 60% modified visual elements. This indicates that AI currently serves as an auxiliary tool rather than a full replacement, though its efficiency positively impacts business growth, with 31% of users reporting an increase in sales.
Future Market Outlook
Although website design and coding are being automated, businesses remain cautious regarding domain management and hosting. Only 21% are prepared to entrust these technical details entirely to AI. Furthermore, there is a social aspect to consider: only half of the entrepreneurs are willing to publicly admit that their website was created with the help of artificial intelligence.
This trend serves as a significant signal for the Georgian market. For local web studios and freelance developers, competition is no longer limited to other specialists; they must now compete with affordable and fast AI tools. While this presents a challenge for those focused solely on basic web development, market demand for complex, customized, and unique solutions is expected to maintain the need for highly qualified professionals.
