Apple Developing New Smart Home Device With a Moving Screen
The tech giant is reportedly working on a robotic-armed display to succeed its first-generation smart home device.

Apple’s Next Move in the Smart Home Market
Apple has officially introduced its first smart home display, the HomeView. Integrated with a speaker, the device aims to compete with established rivals like the Amazon Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. However, the first-generation model comes with limitations that the company appears to be well aware of. Apple is already actively developing an improved version that will offer users significantly more flexibility.
What Will Be Different in the New HomeView?
Reports suggest that the upcoming model—potentially branded as HomeView Ultra, Max, or 360—will receive a major technological upgrade. The most notable change will be a 9-inch screen mounted on a robotic arm. This design addresses one of the current model's primary drawbacks: its static display. The device will be capable of identifying the user and using the robotic arm to follow them, making it far more convenient for daily home use.
Why Was the First Model Delayed?
An interesting detail is that the current HomeView, which has only recently reached the market, is actually an older project. Reports indicate the device spent nearly a year in warehouses awaiting the finalisation of its software. This explains the thick bezels and hardware specifications, such as the A18 chip and 8GB of RAM. The project's launch was postponed multiple times before it was finally released.
When Can We Expect the New Model?
The project, known internally by the codename J595, is planned for release in 2027 or 2028. It is expected that the new model with the moving screen will be significantly more expensive than the current standard version, though the exact price remains unknown. While the device is attractive to users within the Apple ecosystem, the company will need to prove that moving screen technology is a necessary and functional addition in a highly competitive market.
For users in Georgia who are active Apple customers, these developments are significant as smart home technologies become an increasingly integral part of daily life. Although the full potential of the HomeView is yet to be realised, future models demonstrate Apple's ambition to secure a leading position in the smart home segment.
