Amazon Couriers to Wear Smart Glasses for Data Collection
The company aims to use the collected visual data to train its artificial intelligence platform.

Amazon is set to introduce a new technological shift in its delivery operations. The company plans for its couriers to wear smart glasses that will capture images in a near-continuous mode while on the job. This process will include recording private property and any individuals present during the delivery.
Data Collection and AI
Reports indicate that these glasses could capture thousands of photos during a single shift. According to Amazon’s plan, this visual data will be uploaded to the company’s artificial intelligence platform, Wellspring. Amazon spokesperson Viraj Chatterjee stated that the technology aims to optimise and improve the delivery process, adding that the goal of the data collection has never been surveillance.
Nevertheless, concerns regarding consumer privacy remain. When asked whether customers would have the option to opt out of the process or request restrictions on photography, Chatterjee admitted that the company has not yet considered such measures.
What Lies Ahead?
This move by the tech giant is likely to draw criticism from both consumers and privacy advocacy organisations. While such innovations may enhance logistical efficiency, the mass collection of data in private residential spaces raises significant ethical and legal questions.
For users in Georgia who frequently rely on intermediary freight forwarders to access Amazon services, direct contact with Amazon couriers remains limited. However, the implementation of such practices on a global scale highlights the evolving ways in which artificial intelligence is set to reshape our daily lives.
